For an hour on Tuesday, December 5, 2016, a DUI suspect led the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) on a fiery chase before being apprehended. Starting in Sylmar at approximately 10 PM, the chase went through the areas of Pacoima, North Hollywood, Van Nuys, and other areas in the vicinity before the driver pulled over and police could apprehend him. The suspect was thought to be armed at the time police initially tried to pull him over before the chase began.
During the chase, the driver appeared to hit the rear wheel of a bicyclist. The cyclist was okay and didn’t appear to be hurt by the incident. As the chase continued, the rear wheel of the vehicle came apart and streaks flew through the air as he sped on. With a shredded rim, the driver was still able to get on the 210 freeway at speeds of 80 MPH going towards Glendale. Shortly after 11 PM, the chase came to an end when the vehicle got boxed in by a pick up truck on a street after crashing. Police were able to apprehend the suspect without incident.
Several news stations captured the chase live via helicopters. The LAPD has not released any additional information on this DUI chase at this time.
